Asia has always been an excellent location for backpackers and gap year students to travel, thanks to how inexpensive it is but also because of a growing community of other backpackers eager for a similar adventure.

That said, here are 4 most inexpensive travel destinations in Asia:

#1: Bagan, Myanmar

This destination has a number of pagodas, temples and stupas that can pack up your travel itinerary. You can either rent a bike (costing about $300) to take a tour of the sights or even travel by horse-drawn cart for only $20. As usual, food and drinks are really cheap.

#2: Sapa, Vietnam

Not only is this country’s beer the cheapest you can get but on the whole, it gets even more cheap during the winter, thanks to entry visa costs being lowered even further. You can enjoy hoi bia or rent a bike for $5 and enjoy some of Vietnam’s finest scenery.

#3: Vientiane, Laos

Being the capital of Laos, this sleepy riverside town has that charm which is hardly anything like Vang Vieng. You can either walk across the capital or even avail the services of a bike rental. Even if this doesn’t sound all that exciting, it will set you back by a few dollars a day.

#4: Pokhara, Nepal

Considered a backpacker’s heaven, Pokhara has a number of choices when it comes to budget, premium and mid-range hotels. The number of outdoor activities are staggering from treks to boating, watching the sunrise from Sarangkot hilltop or even visiting Davi’s Fall.
